Actually, WWI isn't big in the curriculum over here. We focus more on WWII

both the allies and germany were really "on their knees" with exhaustion after the 3 years of war when the u.s. entered the war. the u.s . did not provide any aircraft, artillary, tanks or other equipment to the war effort, the small ammount of manpower that arrived was not really decisive in military terms but what was seen as a major threat, and caused the german high command to surrender was the ability to transport men and material supplies across the atlantic by ship. the contribution by the u.s. was nothing in military terms, although americans like to think that "we won the war for you" this is not true. what won the war was the technical ability for any new source of supply to reach the battlefield from canada, u.s. or anywhere else for that matter.what germany feared was extra supplies to the allies.

I had a British education and I was taught nothing much about the Americans in WWI.

This. They barely taught us anything on it. It's a real shame in my opinion.

I always figured the U.S. was kind of tooting its own horn with the "When we entered the war was pretty much over because of us" I just didn't want to call wolf without knowing.
------- and somewhere deep inside I know we will find we are back from the future, saving the interwebz one post at a time SG
