So, I have two monitors -tv and laptop-. They were working until someone messed with the settings. I've been trying to fix them. Either the screen programs are only on the tv or the laptop, or portions of it (like the background) are on one but only the programs (like iTunes or mozilla) are on the other. When it does the the touchpad is like disconnected because I can see it on the background screen on one monitor but it doesn't work on the other monitor. It's so frustrating! <- confusing explanation.

My question is: how exactly do I fix the settings so the whole entire screen is just mirrored between them?

So you want to have the same picture on both screens (clone display)?

What operating system and computer model are you using?

(I only ask computer model because if you happen to have Intel integrated graphics it can be done very easily.  If it is not Intel it is still possible but different)

Vista, and Acer 5610z.

I already know it works on my computer, I just don't know how to correct the settings.

You have Intel GMA950 for video, that makes it very easy.

In the lower right of the screen there is a tray icon that is blue, when you hold your mouse over it it will say something like "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator..."  Right click the icon and got to "Graphics Properties."

In the Display Devices area there will be an "Operating Mode" section.  Click the pull-down box and select "Intel Dual Display Clone."  Then Apply the changes and it should work as desired.
