See, these are some of the facts that have been given by various news reports I've seen on the Fort Hood shootings.

- Major Nadal Malik Hasan was an army psychiatrist stationed in Fort Hood
- He was (or there's  a strong chance that he was?) recently informed that he's being sent to Iraq.
- He's Muslim.

Now, logically, if you left out his religion, you would assume that he's a man who is used to hearing about the horrors of war, and when he found out he had to go to Iraq, he had some sort of psychotic break, and voila.

But because he's a Muslim, they feel the need to point this out. Multiple times.

Now, had this man been Christian, they likely would not have mentioned his religion.
Had he been athiest, they likely would not have mentioned it.
Had he been Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, etc, they likely would not have mentioned it.

But because of the nature of this war, they atuomatically go "OMGZ! He's Muslim! Maybe this was a terrorist plot!"

Is it so hard to believe that some Muslims are not out to kill us all? Really?

I really wish the media would stop perpetuating stereotypes.

The media has been doing that crap for years, just with different groups, and people seem to eat it up like candy.

I know. Youd think they'd learn? I dont care whether people seem to eat it up, it just perpetuates problems.

I agree completely, it was obviously some sort of breakdown. I'd say the people were just in the wrong place at the wrong time when he decided to off himself.

Obviously he is not one of the Muslims that do not want to kill us.

And why did he make an issue of his religion, by shouting "God is great" in Arabic?

Believe me, if he voted for McCain THAT would be an issue.

i agree that he probably had a breakdown, and that it has NOTHING to do with his religion. he obviously was being sent to iraq to defend OUR country, so they're just being the news.. unfortunately.

He was a doctor, wasn't going to be defending a damn thing.  He was going to help those actually defending the country deal with mental health problems.

His religion had a lot to do with his actions.

And that somehow makes his position unimportant? He was still going to be indirectly defending the country.

As to his shouting about his religion - if a Christian had done the same thing, and during a psychotic break, shouted something about his God, it still wouldn't have gotten the attention this did.

Yeah, I do, too. As soon as I heard about this, I said, 'I really hope he isn't Muslim' :/ Then I saw he was, and was like, ugh. Great.  Good thing I'm not in school anymore, the harassment was brutal.

God knows it pains me to agree with abs, but this. I'm sure that if he'd shouted out something like "DIE IN THE NAME OF JESUS!" or "IN THE NAME OF THE LORD AND THE LADY, PERISH!" before he started shooting, his Christianity or Wiccanness would be brought up.

It seems that his religion was, in some way, a motivator for his actions. That is why it's being brought up.
