I have basically the same philosophy, yeah I'm addicted to smoking but I don't bitch and try to get people to pity me. My "friend" on the other hand is always bitching about needing nicotine and trying to get me to lend him money so he can buy some.

Agreed. I got addicted to cigs, and I got off them. Some drugs take longer but it is possible. Hopefully you arent addicted to alcohol which the withdraw can kill you

You must consider, though, the possibility (which is very real), that addicts were initially prescribed these medications for bona fide medical reasons, and developed an addiction later. I am addicted to methylphenidate (Ritalan/Concerta) but that is due to being prescribed it every day. I am also [physically] addicted to clonazepam, since I am prescribed a shit ton of it.

When I say "addicts", I am using the general term fro like crackheads, or cokeheads, or meth addicts, or cig addicts.
