So you're saying it's acceptable for people to drop dead in hospital waiting rooms because:

-They can't see a doctor fast enough
-No insurance
-Insurance isn't accepted at that hospital

You think that's fair?

-------
And when you're up watching cartoons at like 3 in the
morning you're nice and low to the ground
with your bean bag chair so when you
roll over you can sleep on the floor naked with your bag of cheetos

I doubt that anyone things reform is unimportant, there's just tons of disagreement about how to go about it.

well, for the first reason

with universal healthcare, they still wouldn't be able to see one fast enough in most cases

i, personally, would be fucked because my problems that i end up in the hospital for are not serious enough according to the way that operates. that's not to say i dont need immediate medical attention though.

I went to the ER with a rapid heartbeat, severe spatial disorientation and muscular weakness. Nobody asked what was wrong with me, they just told me to sign my name on a clipboard and sit down.

Yeah.... that needs to change.

Learn the difference between "universal health care" and "public option," and then speak about the subject.

you could be told to wait for days under universal healthcare though.
it is never a good idea to go to one end or the other.

it needs to be balanced out, rather than one side alone choosing only one option for every single person in the country.

i cannot walk into a hospital because of a kidney stone, then be told i have to wait x amount of hours/days/weeks to be seen and risk a blockage that could kill me in a very very short period of time, when i could get it fixed very easily if it were to happen right now.

The public option is neither public, nor an option. The current reform bill needs to be mostly scrapped and re-worked. It fucking sucks balls.

But there is a need to correct yourself, considering universal healthcare hasn't crossed Obama's lips or Congress's lips in a long time. It is the public option on the table, which is completely different than universal healthcare.

Delivery Boy, well I am happy to know you are okay, obviously the hospital personel knew what they were doing and the urgency of your situation since if not you would not be here, right? What most people do not realize is that the hospital by law can't turn anybody down in life threatening situations, it is against the law. I am a nurse and I have had.many individuals without insurance and foreigners vacationing in my city which ended up under my care and some even spend weeks due to the severity of their illness. The hospital can't ask you whether or not you have insurance until a registered ER nurse sees you (triage) and determines whether or not your visit is for a life threatening situation or not.
Something else that people that want to socialize our healthcare do not reealize is that we still have a major shortage of nurses and healthcare professionals in general. We can't see evereybody at once and people's conditions have to be triaged by a nurse. You better believe that if you are experiencing a truly life threatening condition you will be seen (immediately).

Last but not least: Some pwople can't honestly afford insurance and they should be assisted (medicaid or medicare and or both...depending on age). Yes, the economic status of an individual should be determined and they deserve healthcare (everyone), but what about those individuals that dare to. E driving $800 cars and then say they can't afford insurance? Prior to becoming a nurse, I paid my own insurance ($230/ month) and that and the roof on my head, electricity anfd food was my priority (not fancy clothes, cars, dinners and so on...). Look around, how many people that you know if they were to cut down on luxuries could afford insurance? More than you know.

"Free" healthcare is not truly free. People in Canada, pay at least 50% of their salaries in taxes and my father-in-law (Canadian) had to wait 6 months in pain in order for his benigned tumor to be removed from his stomach. Yet, he has been paying high taxes since the age of 14 and never had to go to a hospital prior to this incident. Now was that visit free? Definitely not.

Another excuse I hear regarding health insurance is that people do not qualify for treatment of pre-existing conditions. Now, this is a tough one! If their parent would have gotten them insurance from the time they were born...that would have not been an issue, right? Why wait until you are overweight, smoking, hypertwensive and with other high risk situations (from an insurance company perspective) to get insurance? The sooner you get it the better. There is no excuse, we Americans are spoiled! Look around your home and I guarantee that you have spend a lot of money on things that you really do not need...adjusting our lifestyle is key...if you try your best to lead a healthy lifestyle (exercise, eat right, not smoke, or abuse drugs and alcohol) do you want half your salary to go to the healthcare of someone that neglects his/her health?

We need to take responsibility for one our health and two why are we not putting money aside for health insurance?

Healthcare reform is imporant.

The current bills being talked about in the House and Senate are a bunch of horse shit, and should not be passed.
