Okay my suitemate is Indian. She has very dark, nearly black hair. (As in, it looks black to normal people but she maintains it is dark brown. --Regardless, not the point)

She says that during the summer her hair gets lighter. <--valid claim, as sun lightens most hair eventually.

HOWEVER. She also maintains that in the winter her hair gets DARKER. The entire hair, not just the roots. My question is, is this possible? I was under the impression that once hair was bleached (by whatever process, chemical or otherwise) it stayed that color.

No my hair is like that too. Well not now. It's black. But when it is just my hair that i was born with then yes. But now that i have black hair it's not changing.
