i've been friends w/a girl since college started like two months ago. Not close, but we talk often online and usually class. Recently she has been texting frequently and is all "we are hanging out soon"
we texted a hell of a lot tonight and she ended up saying 'love you' at the end of one of the texts. i am wondering whether it is a casual "i love you" to a friend or maybe something more. d'you think it would be reading too far into it to assume that it was more than casual?
She probably just says that to friends she considers to be worthwhile friends. Just hang out with her and see how it goes. Go with the flow, man.
------- And when you're up watching cartoons at like 3 in the morning you're nice and low to the ground with your bean bag chair so when you roll over you can sleep on the floor naked with your bag of cheetos

See, this is why I hate phrases like "I love you" without existing known context. It's just too fucking ambiguous.

"Friend" and "Love You" are the most overused and least understood words used. I suspect she is one of those that uses it a lot on a lot of different people. Take it with a grain of salt. Watch her interactions with others. I bet she spreads the Love Ya words freely which only minimizes the sincerity.
Actions speak louder than cheap words.

That's why I only use the words "love you" together with additional context, and even then rarely.
As for friends... I try to use that word carefully. To me, the vast majority of people I know are aquaintences, not friends. 'Friend' is a word I reserve for close, intimate people, and in any case the lines between "friend" and "relationship" are extremely blurry to say the least.
Unfortunately, for simplicity's sake I often end up having to use friend because trying to explain semantic nuances like that when you're trying to have a conversation with someone you've just met becomes tiresome even for me.
