the s is not an addition to mathematics, it is part of the word. when you shorten a word, you don't keep the last letter. therefore, the s isn't necessary on the shortened word 'math'.

complete retardation indeed.

Mathmatics is a plural, do you guys in the states only do one sum per lesson?

Well...

rt27 = 2t(9*3) = rt9 * rt3 = 3 * rt3 = 3rt3

3*(3rt3) = 9rt3

square root as a power = 0.5

9*(3^0.5)?

Oh wait, 9 = 3^2

3^2*3^0.5

USing the laws of indices,
(a^m)*(a^n)=a^m+n

so, 3^2.5

3 x sqrt27 = 3^n

3^1 x sqrt9xsqrt3 = 3^n
3^1 x 3sqrt3 = 3^n
3^1 x 3^2/2(3^1/2) = 3^n
3^2/2 x 3^3/2 = 3^n
3^5/2 = 3^n
5/2=n

makes more sense writing it out that seeing it on computer :G

Is there any way of doing this without knowing the rules of indices? I thought indices was C1 stuff, not GCSE

I dunno whether we did additional maths but there weren't any indices questions in ours, but that WAS 2007 (Idk if it's changed since then)
