A few years ago, I used to have singular crushes for long periods of time, but i was too insecure, nervous, and the like to do anything about it. Now, I'm confident in myself and my ability to deal with crushes, but it seems that now I only end up having many crushes each for very short periods of time.

That's why they're called crushes and not romance. I don't know, I pretty told that part of my brain to shut up a long time ago and it hasn't bothered me since, leaving me free to build relationships and romance as I see fit.
