Allergic perhaps?
Only thing I can really think of. Unless you are messing with them loads and they got infected?
My ear got infected once, it swelled up and really hurt. Try not to mess with them too much.

I have the same problem. Have you ever been tested for a nickel allergy?

Gold earrings have more nickel in them than silver or stainless steel (unless you have 24k, the REALLY good stuff). If you're allergic, that may be the problem.

Personally, I'm allergic to nickel to the point that I can't wear earrings unless they're nickel free. If I get something with nickel, they hurt and tend to get infected easily.

In my case, the allergy is severe. Even necklaces, bracelets, or belts with metal buckles can irritate my skin.

You might just try something that's specifically labeled nickel free.

Also, keep them clean.
