For christmas I'm getting a turtle or 2, but I want small ones that don't live for like 80 years like a bunch of them do. I want them to be able to live on land&water. And i don't wanna feed them fish or crickets or anything alive...
So anyway, here's what I want.

Small
shorter life span
lives in both land&water
doesn't need live food.

Anyone, anyone. if this doesnt work out I'm just gunna get newts. lol

Terrapins, although they do smell quite a bit.
Newts are adorable and easy to care for, though

Why would you want it to have a shorter life span?

Because I don't want one that lives like 80 years, as i said above.

Yeah that's real nice. Domesticate it so it can't live in the wild anymore and then leave it alone there.

Sounds like you want a couple of box turtles. As far as I am aware, most turtles will live several years. They can live in a tank but they don't require heat lamps like snakes and other reptiles would. I've had a friend who's kept them in one of those small, plastic kiddy pool and placed real plants and a small pond (about a foot in diameter) in the middle with lots of rocks and such. Looked really cool. They can eat fresh vegatables such as lettuce leaves and some worms- it's actually a lot healthier than those reptile sticks you can feed to them as well.

Just this past summer, I met my aunt's business partner and she happened to have several pet turles. Most of them were box turtles she and her daughter had saved. She kept them in her back yard because she had a huge problem with snails and could barely grow anything because of those things. It's really funny because they can leave whenever they want, but they usually stay. She can even call them out by name and they'll come to her like a dog would, lol. One of these days I'll get a video of it- it's just so unusual but cool to see.
