Today anyway. Yeah, this is a serious topic. I've always coped, sort of, without having proper friends. I just hang around people I know at school, no more. I haven't had anyone around my house for a year or so now. It just doesn't work. Culture crash. I was born in Sweden, with Polish parents. And we live in Portugal. And I speak English too. This mix-up doesn't work so well. I don't really have my own country. If I went back now to Sweden, my accent would suck, and I just don't fit in anywhere any more. Portuguese are sort of anti-foreigners. Most people are anyway. So what do I do? Nuffink. Weekends I do what I usually do: Orchestra practice for half the day, then usually I stay at home watching TV or go to church. And Sundays? Sometimes I go play football with the guys downtown. Or I oversleep and watch TV or go to the beach if it's good weather with my family. Fuck, I hardly ever do anything with friends. Well duh, I don't really have any. By the way, I find solace in music. Practice is relaxing, when everyone plays right. But when I feel swept away, is at the concerts. The music fills everyone, and just for those 5 minutes of the piece, I am in a different place. Frankly, I have no time to go out. I'm too busy trying to be ace at school, or trying to be ace in music, which I have about 5 hours a week. I'm kinda hoping Uni might bring me socially closer. Otherwise I mess around with my younger brothers, or just hang around my family. And yall who speak to me on LW, thanks. At least then I don't feel like an alien who never talks to anyone. I don't even have a smiley that expresses anything I am now. I'm just... and something else at the same time. I hope I'm not the only one. And whoever read this to the end, Thank You

You might just suck at making first impressions, try to be a little more inviting and don't act shy, because that might be your problem.

Yeah I realised that. Except when I try acting not shy, I'm a bit too much, you know, and people sometimes find me a bit in-your-face. Yeah I need social lessons.
yeah, its just something you learn to develop over time. we naturally grow to feel more comfortable in our skin as we get older. and once that comfort grows, we feel happy and confident with ourselves, and feel like we can conquer anything, talk to anyone. :] It just takes time is all. At least for me; I used to be SOOOO secluded. but Now I'm always going up to people and saying hey. n__n

I read this whole thing. And I know how it feels to not have anyone to talk to. I moved to nyc three months ago and still...no friends. People at work, sure. But they're just coworkers. I am too busy to make friends outside of work.
