I've had these for 2-3 years, but never really thought much of them. I thought I was taking showers that were just too hot, until one day in the winter I came out of an average-temperature shower with red hives all over my face (near my ears especially), down my neck, chest and back. They itched like crazy, and seemed to be radiating heat from them. They were irritating, sure, but never really worried me much. Some days I got them, some days I didn't. It doesn't matter what temperature the water is- hot, cold, warm, etc.

I started taking zyrtec and it's helped a lot, I love it. Once in a while I still get hives when I shower, even on the zyrtec, but they don't itch and vanish within 10-20 minutes.

One day, I decided to try this product called Color-Oops, which is supposed to shrink dye molecules and make hair color wash out. I remember this because when I got out of the shower after rinsing the product out, I had a rash on the inside of my right left, below my knee. It wasn't raised, it didn't hurt, and no heat radiated from it like my hives.

Now, I get it every time I shower. It's sort of my warning sign. When I see the red rash starting to appear, I know I've stayed in too long and hives are soon to follow, so I hurry out.

Does anyone know what this could be? I've talked to my doctor and she suggested an allergy test, but I just can't afford that right now.

It is NOT dry skin, I've had so many people suggest this to me. It isn't a soap I use, or a shampoo or conditioner I use (trust me, trial and error tests have proven this). The only thing I can think of is it MIGHT be the water itself (we have well water).

It probably is the water, you might be allergic to something in that. The only way to know would be to have allergy testing, and yeah, it is expensive. I had to have that done a few years back and now I get shots which do seem to help quite a bit. Good luck with your problem and I hope you find a solution.
