treat it like a serious sport? College cheerleaders really enjoy doing the traditional mockery of their sport by doing calendar shoots, putting a ridiculous amount of focus on appearance, rarely participating in matches ("tornumants," they don't happen as often as games that's for sure), and cheering on sports that would be damn embarrassed to do any of that shit. They also tend to play distracting pop music in the background instead of just doing the cheers. What if a football team decided that music wasn't for the halftime show, they were going to blast Ice Ice Baby the whole fuckin game? They should have figured out that one out a long time ago, pretty simple concept.
Also, on some of their website their "athletic profiles" so-to-speak include not stats on their cheer positions (flyer, whatever els etc?), cheer scores, HS squad, height/weight, etc, but information about their... favorite food? Hobbies?!
If cheerleaders willingly continue (and embrace) this stuff, they cannot complain that people don't take it seriously as a sport. If they got rid of the horse-and-pony show, and it revolved around competition instead of showmanship, like everything else we call a sport, it would be seen as a sport.
A lot of this can be applies to HS cheer as well. If you go to a gay ass hick HS where the cheerleaders get assigned a football player to bake a cake and all this shit for, you should be ashamed to even make the suggestion that cheerleading is a sport.
