i have seven brothers but no sisters, and a friend of mine has five sisters but she has no brothers why does that happen? is it coincidence or is there something else going on there?

It's only men that have the ability to bestow gender on a child, seeing as how boys are XY and girls are XX, and therefore women by nature can only pass on an X chromosome.
Could just be cosmic lottery. There is apparently research that suggests men in high-pressure jobs are more likely to have daughters, because of some genetic muckup in their bodies that mean that their sperm isn't necessarily 50% male and 50% female, as it should theoretically be.
