A girl I like recently dumped her b/f. A mere week later her break up, she's going on a date with a close friend of hers. I really like her, but I also don't want to be her rebound. On the other hand, what if she and her guy friend click?
Right now, my game plan is to remain aloof and just keep hanging out with her and try to show her why she should be with me. She may find immediate comfort in her dorky friend, but sooner or later, she'll fall for me.

Try not to get stuck in the friend zone, but if she does break it off with this guy, jump in then. Honestly it sounds like he is the rebound guy, and once she gets it out of her system she'll probably be more hesitant, but it'll probably be worth it.
