There really needs to be some sort of settings for Alerts. I know I'm just about the billionth person to say this, but seriously, people unfriend each other because of the alerts they produce. There needs to be an "ignore all" button at the VERY LEAST.
We need options like ignoring alerts on a per-user basis, ignoring certain TYPES of alerts, or just turning them off all together.

I agree fully with this suggestion. And I hate to compare it like this but it must be done. Make it something like how facebook allows you to configure your email alert settings. Choose which apps can email you about updates and stuff like that. We could do the exact same thing here, choose which features when updated we would want to receive alerts from.
