We swipe our ID cards and put it an access code. There's no way to leave the door unlocked unfortunately, it locks when you leave so you're fucked if you lose your card.

I don't live in a dorm, but the one in my university uses fingerprints to open the main entrance doors. Don't know about the individual rooms, though. I'm guessing they use regular keys.

Probably pay a fee and get a new one from the office.

You either pay someone $5 to open your door for you or go but a new ID when the place is open.

Last time I got locked out I had no cash on me so I knocked and woke my suitemates up

The oldest hall is with an actual key, but the others you use your id cards. Some just to get into the dorm, but some you need a key/card to get into th halls too.

I don't live in a dorm... but to get into my house, I rely on a key.  And the dorms at my school require keys.

I have no clue. I have seen the people put their finger in the scanner to open the door. I haven't asked because I don't want the security guard in the building to think I want to do something bad.

To get in the main door, we swipe a key card. To get into our individual rooms, it's a regular old lock and key system. I think they're upgrading the room doors to key cards for next year though.
