My dad recently received a free upgrade from his work with the new XP Media Center Edition. Other than the prettier looks, what's so good about it?

Is it worth installing?

It's more stable, drastically cuts down on the appearance of the "Blue Screen of Death". I got my Windows XP Professional for free, I immediatly installed it over my Windows ME, but I changed the option, so now it looks just like previous versions of Windows, the blue Start Menu was getting to me.

I've had XP for about ... um ... just over a year I think, right around the time Service Pack 2 came out, I think I only got that screen twice since, and that wasn't Windows fault, I had messed up another program.

Not really.... Windows XP works like a charm for me, and there are TONS of programs available for windows in general...

Hahaa!!! LOL!!!!

Oh my God, that made me laugh hard!!

Windows sucks! The only thing worth doing is trashing your PC and getting a Mac... or installing some form of Unix/Linux on your PC.

the media center edition is basically worthless unless you have a media center style PC. All it does is have drivers for remotes(and other like objects), better DVD support, and suited for media functionabiliy (hook-up to LCD TV as a sweet dvd player)

As espresso said, it's more for your entertainment system. If you have a computer that controls your TV, dvd player, and a stereo then Media Center Edition is good, otherwise I'm not sure what use it will be.

You'd want a big TV and a TV tuner card and a big ass hard disk for it to be any use to you. It's good if you want to record your favourite satellite or TV programmes and then burn them to DVD (after editing out all the commercials) but if you don't specifically want it for video and multimedia, it's pretty useless and will probably slow your PC performace down somewhat especially if you like gaming.
