Having been to Paris, I have come to notice that my fellow Canadians who speak french do not speak proper french that you would hear in Paris. Its more like slang french in Canada.

Yeah there's a huge difference, from what I remember of my French Canadian softball coach.

how do you even define 'proper french'?

i doubt you can speak french fairly well, let alone speak it fluently to understand the nuances of the regional differences.

It's a different dialect of French to that of in France, different parts of France have various ways of speaking. There is no such thing as ''Proper French''.

i think you should learn to speak my mother tongue so we can chat and not have anyone understand us :P

but really, i know you had a hard time in the marines which is why i'm always so nice to you. i wouldn't put down any marine for their hard core work and time they gave.

me on the other hand i had a brief stint in the hungarian air force as a fighter pilot, those russian migs were bad ass. i had to retire though after an accident involving a bottle opener and some shelving units. my commanding officer loved me though.

Given a couple centuries of total domination, culturally, politically, economically, by anglophones, it's amazing anyone in Canada can still speak ANY kind of French.

Yes, Canadian is French is different. But it is different for a good reason; Canadian French is old, and living. French spoken elsewhere is more like Parisian French because the standard used by France is what francophones in the former French empire around the world strive to imitate. Francophone Canadians really own their language, as distinct as it may be. Other francophones outside of France are just borrowing it.
