Late last night I tried to install Windows Vista SP1 through the Windows Updates. I let it go and install and it got to the point where I had to re-boot the computer. I pressed the re-boot button and let it go.

After it re-booted it got to a set-up on a black screen that was either installing or scanning files or something and it gave me a stop error. Being me, I didn't even bother to copy it down, but instead googled it on my phone... Which didn't save it... I saw that a lot of people were having the problem.

Right now I'm in Ubuntu typing this out. I attempted to use the Vista System Recovery disks but it would tell me it's loading the Windows Files and then it would go to the Microsoft loading thing before you log into Vista and it stops and gives me a blank screen. So it's not letting me use the recovery disks.

What should I do?

A new computer is out of the question, it's pointless when there is almost always a solution.
Calling Microsoft is a pain in the ass, one, because they rarely ever solve the problem without there being some sort of money involved, and two, I'll be on hold for 3 hours.

It's amazing what ordinary people can do if they set out
without preconceived notions.
