Whut? I'm not sure why you bothered wasting so much space on the potential destruction of the world when it's little more than media hype. Furthermore, a failure to detect Higgs at the energies probed would be far more exciting than success. And a failure to detect isn't a failure in experimental terms, it's as much a positive result as finding the damn particle. There would've been no waste.
