I listen to a lot of different genres. As long as it suits the mood and sounds good, why not? I mainly listen to like rock and metal, but also rap and punk and techno.

But water's not vodka and I'm not a duck,
so slide me a bottle and shut the fvck up.

I listen to alot of music and I'm pretty open minded about it, but my favourite genres are alternative and Indie, I like some R&B, but alot of the lyrics get on my nerves as they sound as if they haven't really been thought about.

Since I am "music dude" I feel obligated to post here :P

Rock is good, especially progressive rock, art rock, experimental rock, post-rock, and all the other non-mainstream stuff.  Some classic rock bands are great as well, but most are generic.  Pop rock fails, though.

Folk is also sometimes good, when executed right.  Most good folk is along the lines of Sufjan Stevens or Neutral Milk Hotel, in which lots of musical talent is involved, though.  I mainly like the sound of various folk instruments.  Irish instrumental folk is also pretty catchy.  Again, there's lots of places where this genre completely blows, but it has enough gems to keep it from utterly sucking.

There's some good electronic music out there, if you know where to look (mainly Warp Records).  Artists like Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, and all of Aphex Twin's aliases are all good, but there's some annoying mainstream stuff that's just god-awful (Daft Punk, for example).

Basically, I like the non-mainstream stuff that actually requires talent.

Liking non-mainstream music doesn't mean you like good music and vice versa.

Mainstreem Rock like Linkin' Park is good music imo.

Anyways Rap really is in a bad spot right now. I mean Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, 50cent, Birdman, Gorilla Zoe and more of those rappers just plain suck. I mean they rap about pointless shit. Nas would shut Lil Wayne up and tell him to stop rapping about pointless stuff. Nas and Kanye are the best there is right now. The Game also sucks I mean he tries so hard to be a "gangstuh" that he is joining many other rappers about just rapping about how your "hood" is k3WL or how many times you've been shot or how many hoes you have laid and shit like that.
Atleast Rock has meaning. Some Rap also has meaning but right now these rappers just suck I mean they should go to Hip-Hop instead of Rap.

umm, thats kinda hard for me to decide, i love both genres. but i guess if you put one song against another (rap song vs. rock song), and well depending on what those songs were, that would probably be the only way i could give an answer...mmm :)

Anyways Imma Hip Hip Head so yes, rap.

mysticohan: Talib's kinda sitting in the middle of mainstream & underground.

I love Wu-Tang Clan!!, Talib Kweli, Afu-Ra, Jurrasic 5, Killarmy, EPMD, Royce 5'9, Biggie, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, RZA/Bobby Digital!!(all Wu members), MF Doom, MF Grimm, Lupe Fiasco, oyea and Papoose!! (second favorite)

I do like some other things though...I really like Welcome To The Machine by Pink Floyd, Incantation by Steve Vai, The Whole Kill Bill soundtrack lol, and The Ecstacy of Gold (the original), an Jimmy Hendrix - All Along The Watch Tower & others...
