I listen to a lot of different genres. As long as it suits the mood and sounds good, why not? I mainly listen to like rock and metal, but also rap and punk and techno.

I listen to alot of music and I'm pretty open minded about it, but my favourite genres are alternative and Indie, I like some R&B, but alot of the lyrics get on my nerves as they sound as if they haven't really been thought about.

Since I am "music dude" I feel obligated to post here :P Rock is good, especially progressive rock, art rock, experimental rock, post-rock, and all the other non-mainstream stuff. Some classic rock bands are great as well, but most are generic. Pop rock fails, though. Folk is also sometimes good, when executed right. Most good folk is along the lines of Sufjan Stevens or Neutral Milk Hotel, in which lots of musical talent is involved, though. I mainly like the sound of various folk instruments. Irish instrumental folk is also pretty catchy. Again, there's lots of places where this genre completely blows, but it has enough gems to keep it from utterly sucking. There's some good electronic music out there, if you know where to look (mainly Warp Records). Artists like Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, and all of Aphex Twin's aliases are all good, but there's some annoying mainstream stuff that's just god-awful (Daft Punk, for example). Basically, I like the non-mainstream stuff that actually requires talent. Post edited at 3:47 pm on Jan. 6, 2008 by music dude

Liking non-mainstream music doesn't mean you like good music and vice versa.

umm, thats kinda hard for me to decide, i love both genres. but i guess if you put one song against another (rap song vs. rock song), and well depending on what those songs were, that would probably be the only way i could give an answer...mmm :)
