What is this I hear about some scientists (Sweedish physists I think), doing something next Wednesday? Apparantly its something to do with speeding up atoms (particle accellerator?), and people fear that it could open a black hole or something, and destroy Earth? It was on the news last night, and the applied maths teacher was talking about it to my friend. What's going on? and can I have a link to a site explaining it if possible? And what's this about it having enough power to open a black hole and destroy the planet? :/

I'm not worried, I just want to know what's going on. How could it cause a black hole anyway?

The Hadron Collider is going to be revved up, I guess. The chance that it'll make a black hole is like 1/10000000000, so I wouldn't worry.

I think that they're trying to recreate the big bang; the particles that they'll be smashing are supposed to like create matter when they collide or some such thing.
