Okay, well I talked myself into posting this finally. So I'd really appreciate it if no one made rude or obscene comments. Well I'm deaf. I have a implant that allows me to hear out of one ear but I choose not to wear it because it's uncomfortable, so in general almost 100% of the time I can't hear anything. And I was wondering... Are there any other deaf members on Live Wire? And what are your views on deaf people and culture? Should people with the ability to hear have the option to learn American Sign Language along with Spanish and French? And how do you think society views the deaf population in general? Sorry I'm Just curious.

I dont have any problem with deaf people. I'll be honest and say that I've never had any real personal encounters with deaf, but If I did I certainly wouldn't think any less of them.

I've always been intrigued simply at how different american sign language is to british, considering they're both adapted around English/the same language.

I'm not deaf, though some people would say I am. lol I'm pretty indifferent about the whole thing. I worked with a guy who was deaf (not sure if it was one ear or both, but he had a hearing aid), at first it was kinda strange because his speech is messed up and he talks very fast, but after a while it was like talking to a hearing person. So if I meet a deaf person I'm not taken aback or anything like that. I think we should be offered ASL in school. It was considered in my school when they dropped French, but so far nothing. I would love to learn Sign Language. I think it's the most fun language :]
