I love bringing my Human Sexuality class into LW because we bring up a lot of interesting topics to discuss.

So here's the question:

If your son was playing with what's considered a girls toy or if your daughter was playing with what's considered a boys toy, would you be upset and how would you react?

My father...flips the fuck out on my brother for playing with girly things and wanting to do girly things. I think it's dumb of him. (my father that is)

A toy is a toy. And if my child grew up to be gay, I wouldn't discriminate against him/her. That's their choice. It's nothing I would do wrong as a parent. And I would love my children regardless of what they did.

I wouldn't be upset.  As long as the child was enjoying the toy, I wouldn't see anything wrong with it.

Now, if my child were playing with matches or scissors, I'd be rather upset.

i agree. I wouldn't react atall we've all gotta learn how a car works or how to help out at home at some point (stereotypical views) what difference does it make if you do it as a child or an adult? I think homophobia has alot to do with how the parents react. It wasnt accepted back then, therefore they assume if you're playing with a girls toy and you're a boy you're going to be gay. This simply isn't the case.

I wouldn't encourage it, but you know.. If they want to play with those kinds of toys so be it. I don't think its really out of the ordinary for a girl to play with toys typically associated with boys. Look at it this way, girls can pretty much wear any clothes guys wear. However, its not socially accepted for a guy to wear a dress. I figure, same applies to toys. As for boys playing with girl toys, I think thats a little odd, but I wouldn't disown him for it. At most I'd try and passively discourage.

Your dad is very old fashion like the dad in Chuck and Larry, he has to understand that his unconscious thought that if his son plays with girl toys that his son isnt gay ,and vise versa for a girl playing with boy toys-all she gets called is a tom boy..nothing wrong with that, and the world should opn up to kids being a new generation where society is putting in the idea that there is no more gender or race..ppl are ppl and i like that idea...other then when ppl are crazyyy

I totally agree with you. The clothes thing is something I can associate with. My little brother likes dressing up in girl clothes at age 13, that bothers my father  A LOT.

At a friends house? From a birthday party? As a Christmas gift? In a daycare center?
