First of all, my mom has bipolar II and I know it can run in families.  I think it started 3 months ago where I was pretty depressed for about a week.  Usually I am so happy, people say I'm one of the happiest people they know.  During that week I would sleep all day, not want to do anything, cry, etc.  Then, I went back to my normal happy self.  Lately I've been paranoid and have been thinking my boyfriend was acting weird.  Now I realize, he is completely normal, I'm the one who's been acting different.  These past few days I think I've sunk back into the depression.  I guess my highs are pretty high but not to the extent I've read about people with bipolar, if that makes sense.  I have social anxiety disorder and mild ocd (wow, aren't I a mess).  Do you think this could be bipolar disorder?  The reason I'm asking is that I feel I'm not as dramatic I guess you could say, as what it says online.  I should talk to my psychiatrist but I'm afraid she'll put me in therapy (which I hate) when I just got out of it.

apparently, the US has relatively high rates of bipolar disorder. learned this through the One show on BBC1. Brits will know it.

Those sound like mood swings.  Bipolar swings are usually much longer and the episodes of mania are more pronounced.

Im not saying you don't have it, but judging from that it doesn't sound like bipolar to me, personally.

It does sound, actually, more like the mood swings associated with depression, as well as some of the symptoms of depression.
I would talk to your therapist.

No your not a mess. I'm the same way, I have social anxiety and I'm seeing a psychiatrist also. I'm also starting to wonder if I'm Bipolar because I like ticked off at people to easily. I'll also be fine for a couple of days then I'll be depressed and not want to do anything. Pm me if you ever want to talk.
