Is it true that pretty much no one has heard of Emory University?

I know that I shouldn't go to a school just for its name, but it still frustrates me that this school doesn't get the recognition that it deserves. I have a feeling that it will get its proper recognition in the next ten/twenty years or so, since with an insanely larger application pool for our generation, schools that used to be nameless have risen in both name recognition and academic quality--since there have to be more good schools to fit all of the extremely qualified applicants. Idk, what do you guys think? I'm just speculating.

I've heard of it.  It's in Atlanta, right?  From what I've heard, it's a very well respected school.
A lot of smaller schools aren't well known amongst the population, but are respected in academia.
And unless you go to an Ivy League school, which school you go to isn't going to have much to do with what options you have when you get out; it's what you learned in that school that will determine where you go.

I know about it. But it's also down the street from me, so I guess I don't really count. I know a ton of people who want to go there.

Oh yeah, and my uncle is a Physics professor there.

And about it-- To get in, you need pretty high test scores (at least upper 600s for Math and Verbal), a high GPA (over 3.75), a challenging high school course load.

Whoa, I really disagree. So many schools are on the same level as the Ivies now, and some of those non-ivies have even bigger name recognition/respect (Georgetown, Stanford, Chicago, Swarthmore... blah blah blah). The whole "Ivies are the only amazing schools" thing is diminishing pretty rapidly. And most of the time, a school like Bowdoin or Amherst is ranked academically above, say, Cornell.
