it's a fairly well known school, at least in my area. you say you're interested in emory and the immediate reaction is "oh, atlanta"

i've heard the name, and i assume that it's a good school because i met a lot of honors students that applied to it.

I've heard of it. It's in Atlanta, right? From what I've heard, it's a very well respected school.
A lot of smaller schools aren't well known amongst the population, but are respected in academia.
And unless you go to an Ivy League school, which school you go to isn't going to have much to do with what options you have when you get out; it's what you learned in that school that will determine where you go.

Whoa, I really disagree. So many schools are on the same level as the Ivies now, and some of those non-ivies have even bigger name recognition/respect (Georgetown, Stanford, Chicago, Swarthmore... blah blah blah). The whole "Ivies are the only amazing schools" thing is diminishing pretty rapidly. And most of the time, a school like Bowdoin or Amherst is ranked academically above, say, Cornell.
