Is it true that pretty much no one has heard of Emory University?

I've heard of it.

I think they sent me something in the mail once.

I've definitely heard of Emory. Its on the top 20 hardest to get into list, or at least it was last year. Small liberal arts college with an awesome reputation. I'm sure that it would be a good school to go to even if a bunch of people haven't heard of it.

It's a well known school actually. Don't let other's judgment discourage you, especially something this silly.

I hope to go to med/grad school there.

 And unless you go to an Ivy League school, which school you go to isn't going to have much to do with what options you have when you get out;

Whoa, I really disagree. So many schools are on the same level as the Ivies now, and some of those non-ivies have even bigger name recognition/respect (Georgetown, Stanford, Chicago, Swarthmore... blah blah blah). The whole "Ivies are the only amazing schools" thing is diminishing pretty rapidly. And most of the time, a school like Bowdoin or Amherst is ranked academically above, say, Cornell.

I completely agree with you. A school's academic reputation definitely matters--especially if applying to Graduate schools. Same thing for Emory..it is ranked higher than Auburn, UGA, etc..although it may not be that well known. My other transfer choice is the College of William and Mary and it is considered a "Public Ivy" and is considerably less-well known and actually cheaper than some schools.
