About ten minutes ago I woke up from the first nightmare Ive had in years. I dont know why posting it on LW was the first thing that came to my mind, but maybe it will help calm my nerves so I can get back to sleep. Its 2 am and I have an AP Stats test in 6 hours.

Anyways, what was going on in the dream was very similar to 'Salems Lot by Stephen King. It was that mixed with a zombie outbreak mixed with a bad horror movie. My town was overtaken by a group of "people", that when they touched you, you had no way of escaping. You watched as they killed you. But they only came out in the night. In the day, the normal people would drive around and take count, to see who was missing. I was with my best friend through the whole dream. One of the last things I can remember was he and I rallied the last few survivors and gave them a peptalk about how to fight these off. Then, the dream jumped to my best friend and I on the phone. We had split up for some reason. And then, as they often do, the dream wigged out and suddenly I WAS my best friend. And I looked up from where I was sitting and this woman was standing above me, and she gave me this horrible smile and grabbed my arm. I could hear the other me on the other end of the phone, screaming to know what was going on. But then this woman pulled out a knife and slowly chopped off my (well, my best friends. but I could feel it) hand. I remember thinking "why is this taking so long? I can feel the knife."
But then I woke up, and my wrist was just falling asleep.

I dont know why that terrified me so much. And I cant believe I typed so much. But I feel a bit better. I cant imagine there is any symbolism or meaning to that. But if you so feel the urge, try to figure it out.

I think it's almost impossible for anyone, other than yourself, to be able to figure out any meaning or symbolism behind a dream that you've had. Our heads our filled with so many thoughts about so many things, and pinpoint one certain thing that may have caused a dream is incredibly hard. The dream could mean nothing, and was caused only by random thoughts from the back of your subconscious. It could have just been created by the very last thing that you thought of before falling asleep. I suppose if someone were to try and get very technical with dream interpretation, your dream could somehow link the chopping off of your best friend's hand to you worrying about him right now in his life. It could go so many different ways. In my opinion, just leave it be. Don't try and make sense out of nonsense.
