Feeling so small compared to them.

I've started my degree now in French Law and English Law. All the lectures for French Law are in French, and if our French is good enough we'll be allowed to go over to France in year's 2 and 4 to study it further. Anyway, I just feel so small compared to some of the people I work with. Some of them are bilingual, others can speak three languages fluently. I can speak French, not fluently, but another couple of months, and I should be there. Don't know whether I should tell the lecturer how I feel, or whether she'll think I'm being a baby about it. Just feels like their achievements are mentioned all the time, which reminds me how unskilled I am, or that's how it seems anyway.

Dont feel like that. If you feel that way, that means you are starting to fail yourself. Think that you can also do it. Probably you still need to learn more from them, but no matter what  you are going to be much much better than now.

Don't you think it's an achievement in and of itself to be in a class completely taught in French, when you aren't completely fluent in it?

Give it time... everyone goes at different paces, and everyone probably has different learning experiences in the French language.

Just go and have a quiet chat, they might quell your fears and make you feel a whole lot better about yourself. I agree with the others, you should be proud that you are in those lectures! What ever you do, don't give up, think how cool it would be to be fluent!

That's why people have to learn and you're learning. People learn things at different speeds, don't worry about it. All you have to do is keep at it and you'll soon be fluent. I know it's easier said than done, but if you give it a little time, you'll soon notice yourself getting more fluent and then you'll be speaking two languages. :)

I certainly understand how you feel that way, but don't allow their achievements to deter you from learning languages. Be proud that you're even attempting to learn. Focus on yourself and how you're doing. Your entire life you will always encounter those who are better than you at basically everything, and it's just something that you need to adjust to.
