How many people are with me on this one.. First cars should never be nice. When someone is given a brand new car (or a extremely nice slightly used car) as their first car by their parents? Put emphasis on the free car from parents part. Really. I know people with brand new imports who show less appreciation for having a car at all then I do with my two-decade-old-pos. Not to mention, I also know more then one person who has even crashed their parent-given rides and gotten them fixed up or replaced for free. So my questions are these:

1. Was your first car free, paid for by yourself, or did your mommy buy it for ya?
2. What was your first car and its value?
3. Your views on parents giving their kids nice cars?

This all came about after reading an article on Jalopnik.com about beaters.. Sort of related, interesting read. Click here.

I don't drive yet, but drivers training is like 400 here so since I'm 18 I'm having my uncle teach me and then I'm taking the test.

I'm planning on buying my car by myself, any other way wouldn't be as satisfying even if it takes me 3 years.

Although I can get a used car on a discount from my uncle because he works at a car dealer.

But it would still cost me about 1200.

But I plan on buying my car for myself.

I don't care what it is as long as it runs and i have a car.

There is nothing wrong with getting discounts. its the fact people are getting cars worth 15k+ for free and smashing them and then not caring that their parents are paying for it all.

1. I bought it

2. 1993 Chevy Cavalier, KBB for $723, bought it for $650

3. Complicated question, I personally think its up to the parents, if they want to give their ungrateful kid a $70,000 car, be my guest. To be 100% perfectly honest, I would 9 time out of 10 choose a nice 80s/90s used car over a new car any day for the simple fact that their computer systems are more simple and easier and cheaper to fix should anything go wrong.

Bought it
1994 Ford Ranger. Bought for 3400, sold for 2000. Replaced tranny at 1200 bucks.
I could care less, but if the kid gets a car bought, it should be a nice car but nothing powerful.

Nice how? Nice as in safe, reliable, etc. or nice as in a Mercedes or Lexus? Well  I suppose most Mercedes are powerful, but w/e.

+ Tempo's are nice and certainly not powerful. lmfao x 10.

Apperently as soon as you get a nice car you're ungrateful. The stick price for my ride was $28,000 brand new in 04. I got it last year when I was 15 for a birthday present.

You guyz suck so bad at life.

You caught me.

My cars make my life a hell of a lot more important than you.

Come up with a real argument.
