could you have ANY degree and then take an education course later if you decided you wanted to teach?
Yes. If you just want to study English, for example, you can do so.
Same goes if you just want to study Biology, Philosophy, or any other subject.
And within four years you can graduate with a degree in said subject.
You can also just go to college and take several classes Freshmen year to see what interests you the most, then Sophomore year you settle in and get to business.

To be a public school teacher?

I think all you need like a 2-year degree from one of those colleges they advertise during daytime talk shows and late night sitcom reruns.

if u have higher aspirations and would like to teach in a private school for the MONEY.

Lots of College.

Actually no. Starting teachers generally don't want more than a Bachelor's degree as they require more pay and fewer schools will be willing to hire them.

Oh, then you're going to need like 6 years in an actual college.

You would need masters too. Hmmm. Any masters or something education specific?

Education specific obviously... talk a guidance counselor at your school or at a university you're planning to attend...

Not very helpful when your advice is trivial at best.

In my state, you need your bachelors as well as a Masters in teaching.

That's 4-6 years of school, depending how many credits you take a quarter.

I've got spurs that jingle jangle jingle.
As I go riding merrily along.
And they sing, "Oh, ain't you glad you're single?"
And that song ain't so very far from wrong.
