Murtagh is actually Eragon's brother, his mother selena used to be married to one of the forsaken until she ran cuz he was a drunk crazy sumbitch, Murtagh got that scar on his back when the sword that eragon now wields was thrown at him by their father, oh and he ends up betraying them, hatching Galbatorix's red egg, oh and Eragon gets a horrible scar slaying a shade but in the second book has it healed.
