I went for cutting... today actually. I was so nervous I felt like my heart was going to explode, but it turned out fine and I am VERY happy I went.

You go in, sit down, they seduce you, you get an std, you start crying, they tell you that they'll tell everyone your problems, and then you leave! Why do you think only the crazy ones go to the counselor? They weren't crazy before, that's for sure!!!!!

Its talking, thats all, you do it every day, nothing to be worryed about. But yes, going to see the counselor for the 1st time can be very nerve wracking... I remember I walked up to the door and then run about 3 times before I got the courage to actually go in. You can go for many diffrent reasons, family problems, depression, anxiety, problems with school, peers... lots of things. Every one has diffrent experience with them, the counsellors at my school have all been really good to talk to and helped me ALOT with my depression and eating disorder.

I've never been personally, but I had a fair few friends go. I was asked to go because my teacher new I was suicidal. Feeling nervous is completely natural. It will get easier though - the first time will probably be the hardest. Go in with no expectations, you know? Just go, have a chat, and see how you feel after. The counselor's purpose isn't to make all your bad feelings go away at once, it's to listen and just do what s/he can. But if you go in with an open mind and let yourself be open and honest, it might really help. Talk about anything too. Whatever's on your mind. I know how scary it can be, but try not to let your nerves get the better of you. Take a deep breath and go for it! Good luck. Post edited at 4:50 am on Sep. 24, 2008 by amiee
