Ive been on Hvar this year and my god that place is way too expensive for what you get.

Hotel Amfora was always full years ago before they built that nice pool, but now its almost empty. For non hotel guests it costs 200 kunas (around 30 euros) to get in and they only have 1 little slide.

Food, same price, nothing special.

Beach - rocks, watter is nice and clean though. Nearest good beaches are on Pakleni islands and you need to go there with a boat which again costs you 5 euros for 1 person. You have to pay for those plastic "beach beds" because you cant put a towel anywhere else on those rocks. Again it costs 5 euros for one.

I was there in august when italians go on holidays in masives, so there was quite a lot of people, but by the end of the month it was almost empty.

Locals complain agains turists how they dont spend money there, because they bring all the food and stuff with them from home. Even toilet paper. Its just too fu**in expensive.

I read that place is going down. Its gonna bankrupt soon.
Whole season in Croatia was below exectations as they said.
They need to lower the prices, make better hotels (not just ** and ***) and locals who work with tourists definitely need to work on being nice with people.

Anyone ever been there?

Yeah it's expensive in terms of Eastern Europe, but it's still easy to find decent lodgings. Hell I stayed in a hostel in Pula which was essentially a small hotel whose owner acted as a personal maid and guide.

Personally I don't see the attraction or point in forking out huge amounts of money to stay in a hotel.

uh yea, but im saying its overpriced for what they offer. and its not only hotels that are expensive, but food and all the other stuff.
Pula is still ok, but Hvar is really goin down if they continue like this.

you just need to learn how to travel the coast better.  if you know where to go and what to look for, you can get by on a reasonable amount of money in croatia - certainly much less than italy, greece, france, or other popular places.  we have a house in a small town called povile about 10 km south of cirkvenica.  its the perfect place to be.  if you crave sand you should have gone to montenegro, though if youre also worried about crowds then you are on the wrong budget.  good luck finding a lone sandy beach these days... for less than an arm and a leg.

oh and quit staying in hotels.  hostels/apartmani are the way to go.  unless you have your own place haha
