Wings. Dragonfly wings have extremely awesome patterns and textures in them. It is beautiful in macro. Beetle wings do too. Just about any insect wing. 
That's a cool idea, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to find any wings or anything like that - especially in winter
Are there any ponds or lakes near you?
I can always find a ton of dead insects near my pond. Or even molted shells. Or, since houseflies are always around, you could use the eye of one of those if you can manage to get close enough (I have a good trick for this if need be!).
Nah, I live in the city and the only place like that is the river, which is blocked off. Thing is, it's got to be in tomorrow (I know I know, but I was catching up on six weeks of English coursework and forgot about it), and I'm not seeing any insects around my house
