I think he should try to steal it.  If the scenario were, the husband has to kill the druggist to get the drug to save his wife, that would be trickier.  But the fact that the matter here is just how many pieces of special, green paper the druggist wants to trade the drug for seems arbitrary and makes theft seem very much less important than saving his wife.

However, the man should make some kind of payment to the druggist, probably the full $2000, as he can.  Because although the druggist is really being an asshole in doing it, I do think he has the right to set the price as high as he thinks he can get for the drug.

But is it right to make that assumption? I can't see how it would be.
Probably not, the assumption is quite a big one, and with so many possible variables and outcomes that could affect the druggist, it's probably not fair or right to make such a huge assumption. We don't know enough of the situation to be able to base that assumption, nevertheless when you're in the situation of your dying wife you don't usually think of the effects on others. You're more worried about your wife, and that's the priority for you, so you put her before others. Should that involve making a rash assumption to be able to get the medicine your wife needs, then it will be done. It may not be morally correct to make such an assumption, and you could end up hurting the druggist, but that's the risk you take, and you know that risk, when you steal the drug to save your wife. You have to hope that you haven't caused any problems (other than the inherent drug loss) to the druggist.

Well I personally would steal the medicine for my loved one even if it was certain to me his loved one would die, I was just playing devils advocate

Is there a plausible reason that person should be allowed to die?

"Preventing them from dying would violate the absolute and eternal word of God"?

No, it wouldn't. If it's God's wish that they die, they WILL die, there is no way to "prevent" that.

I was talking about God's clearly expressed wish for people not to steal things.

This obviously has no relevance to my own atheistic deliberations, but I do not understand how you can reconcile your Christianity with your position.
