My friend saw my school ID that I have for the local community college, and this is what happened:

Him:  Why do you have this?
Me:  So I can use the library there
Him:  Why do you need to use the library?
Me:  (giving a random example) Because we don't have books about linguistics here
Him: Why do you need books on linguistics?
Me: Because I like reading about linguistics....
Him: Oh, you should've been white. You are sooo not black.

I mean....wtf?  I get shit like this all the time.

You shouldn't let people say racist shit to you.

I know a first generation African American (his parents are rom Nigeria) and a bunch of his friends cracked racist jokes around him, finally he told them what the fuck and they stopped. Racist bullshit like thinking it's 'white' to be interested in academic things is retarded and even if it's ackward you should let it be known that it's stupid.
