I asked my Dad to remind me to call Financial Aid. He asked me when I wanted him to call. I said lunch time.

And what does he do? Call at 10:00 because he has nothing better to do now that he's retired and just sits around chatting on the phone and watching TV.

I asked him why he called so early.

"Well, because I thought you'd want to get up and get moving because it could take you hours to get awake and get ready and get to campus."

"Dad...why would I go to campus to ask a question I can ask over the phone?"

"Hell, you never know what they'll want you to do! They might want you to run to your old school to get your transcripts!"

"Dad...I take the bus to campus...that'd slow me down because I'd have to wait for the bus to get back and then get in my car. It'd be faster if I stayed here where my car is because I can't park on campus. Secondly, my transcripts are already here in another department, they're just not getting where they need to go."

"Oh, okay, well you can just go back to bed when you're done then."

Yeah right. Thanks a lot, I've been stressed out beyond belief, having anxiety attacks, crying, studying, waking up early, working 4+ hours every day on something or other, basically busting my ass...and you just had to wake me up early knowing this? Greeeaaaat.

Next time, I'll let the goddamn phone ring. Or, maybe I'll call him when I gotta get up at about 6:30 in the morning for Discrete Math II next quarter.

"What the fuck are you calling this early for?"

"Oh, I just thought I'd call to let you know I'm on my way to class and to chat since I'm bored."

You know what else I hate? When idiots are in charge of answering the phone.

"Financial Aid"

"I have a question about a grant I may be qualified for. I received an email stating that if my transcripts from my previous college arrive and my GPA was at least a 3.0, I may receive more aid. I checked with admissions weeks ago and they said that they're already here."

"What's already here?"

"My transcripts. "

WTF?

Be thankful you have a father who cares so much for you and your education.

And following directions isn't that hard. If I say 12:00, I mean 12:00, not 11:00, not 10:00, not 9:00, not 8:00, etc. 12:00.

Secondly, he didn't call early because he cares, he called because he's bored. He drives my Mom and brother nuts doing this, constantly calling to chat or give orders or bitch, etc. He said he was going to get another job because he can't just sit at home but he never did. He was right, though, he can't sit at home, he goes nuts and takes us with him.

He also does shit like this because he assumes that I, at 20 years of age, am incapable of making these sorts of decisions on my own. I said 12:00 so he naturally thinks, "Oh, that's too late, she doesn't know what she's doing." He never assumes that I do, after having had two jobs, been to two other schools, taking care of all of my transcript crap, that I may actually be able to do this without needing his guidance. He just assumes that I'm stupid and I'm pretty tired of it. I said 12:00 for a reason. It'd give me 5 hours to call when I only need five minutes.

And, yes, 10:00am is early when you've been working your ass off but I don't expect you to understand the consequences of sleep depravation, kids never think about it. "Oh, I'll stay up all night and then drink a Red Bull and it'll fix me!" Uh, no. The longer you go without enough sleep, the longer it takes to recover. It takes over 24 hours to fix one all nighter and I've been having trouble sleeping for days. Four days+ is when things start really going south and it takes even longer to bounce back from it.

I'm at a university with a quarter system. No one is sleeping and/or eating right, people are staying up until 5:00am and not eating just to get their shit done, it's intense. When you're done killing yourself for a grade, you want to sleep, this place is no joke and you're tired. I'm tired, I want sleep. I have to get up tomorrow for a final and then get up at about 7:00 on Friday to get to the airport. Then when I come back, it'll be an overnight flight from which I'll get back to NY at 9:00am. Then I'll have to drive home 5 hours. Excuse me for wanting one day to myself after 9 weeks of work and 2 weeks of cramming.

Oh, he calls alright...to lecture, yell, pick at me, make fun of my Mom and brother, etc.

Yes, he calls quite frequently.

I know all about sleep deprivation, thank you. Stop assuming you know everything about internet strangers.
My father never calls me, not even to bitch, chat, or "bother" me. I'd give anything to have him call me to remind me there's something I need to do.
Maybe you just need to rethink the situation. If your father's bored enough to call you two hours earlier than you wanted him to, maybe you should carry a conversation with him and keep him company until it's time for you to do what you need to do.

And not that this has anything to do with your original topic, but "cramming" is never the best way to study. Maybe you should manage your time more wisely.

The same goes to you. You complain about how your Dad doesn't call and that I'm lucky and you know what? That type of complaining gets on my nerves because you're assuming that my home life is peachy keen and that my Dad is wonderful and you're not the only one to assume this, especially not on this site where everyone wants to tell you that you're a brat. Did you ever once consider that maybe my Dad isn't so great?

I'm from PA. I like being in NY for a reason.

I have but I don't want to listen to him yelling about my brother, picking at my Mom, picking at me, bossing me around, etc. I'm not allowed to make one damn decision on my own. He'll tell me what to do even when he, himself, doesn't know what to do. He'll give me the crappiest advice ever and expect me to follow it and it gets on my nerves. My Mom doesn't even want to talk to him, he can't carry on a civil conversation without being mean or bossy.

Profs don't magically stop teaching a week or two before the final. Shit, my Math Prof threw two more topics at us and my IMM Prof, being the shitty teacher she is, waited until the very end of the damn quarter to give us our project assignment and actually teach us how to do it. Pretty much every project you get here is due at the end of the quarter and things really pick up at the end.

'You gave me the camera but no tape'

'Oh, what class are you in?'

'Mr Belshaws class, he sent us'

'Oh, so, whose your teacher?'
