We were signing up for new things to do at a tournament coming up and my debate teacher suggest I do Religious Text Reading, or basically read a passage out of the Bible.

It was completley awkward because I'm agnostic/athiest and didn't know how to tell her no, I'm completley not interested in reading that.

Before I could say anything though, this one girl (who also happens to be someone I hate) started making terrible remarks about athiests and then the whole class started.

Then the girl looked at me and said, "Good thing you're not an athiest, huh?" and gave me this terrible little smirk.

I wanted to curl up in a ball and die. There's no way she could know since I haven't told anyone and...shit. Atheism is so looked down upon where I live its not something I want to shout to the world.

Ugh.

I announced to my entire class that I am Atheist. They all kept telling me I was kidding, and then finally they accepted that I believe God is fake. Just be who you are, it's not that hard.

If they're true Christians they shouldn't care if you're an atheist.

Who cares what they think? I'm an atheist, and personally I don't like getting into convos about religion...but when it happens and people tell me crap like that, I tell them that people are allowed to choose for themselves what they may or may not believe in.

I went through the same thing.
Now I just don't give a shit.
Weigh your options; Speak your mind and have people hate you or pretend you're something you're not and deal with it that way.

Yeah, sometimes it is. Then when people around you hear about it, they give you this look and say, "WHAT? You don't believe in GOD?"
Don't worry about it. If you're not religious, then you're not religious. Don't let her make you feel like you're weird or let them alienate you.

No one knows for sure what happens anyway, and atheism makes more sense in the long run.

In the US they take religion a tad more serious than here in the UK.

Most people I know couldn't give a toss about religion.

As for this person...get it out the way and just put up with it.

Yeah. Christians are supposed to "accept all"

Not only that, but I live somewhere where no one is a true Christian. Everyone hates gay people, hates pregnant teenagers (although there are quite a lot), hates Athiests, hates liberals.

No one is open-minded enough not to hate people just because they're different.
