I just saw a commercial for the "mojave experiment", which is microsoft's attempt at tricking people into using windows vista.

They're still pushing vista, even though they have Windows 7 being allegedly released next year. lets see if that happens

Vista is pretty much dead, and it was buried with the announcement of Windows 7. I fail to see the sense in upgrading to Vista when Windows 7 is going to be released within the next year.

MS isn't being stupid. The entire problem with vista's not being taken up my costumers is because of the bad press and word-in-mouth that it got pre release. I used Vista RC2 in 2006, it was truly rubbish and since it was a 'release candate' it reflected badly on the final product.
With the Mojave experiment it was a test that people would like vista if they didn't know it was vista, so without the bad press people would have really liked vista and it would have caught on a lot better. Its still caught on a lot more than any other new operating system, look at the number of people buying new computers with vista as apposed to OSX Leopard or the number of people downloading Ubuntu 8.10 etc.

Because Vista is much better than XP in every way and is more of a stepping stone towards Windows 7. From everything i have seen or read about Windows 7 (i haven't got a spare partion or i would have it installed) is that its a lot different from XP, so people might have problems going from XP to Windows 7, Operating systems have changed a hell of a lot in the 8 years between XP and windows 7.

I have to say, I don't think they are being stupid here... They are not tricking people, they are showing them their current OS, either they like it or they don't. How is that a trick? Next, of course they are still pushing Vista, it is the current OS. Where do you think the money to create Windows 7 comes from? (clue: other versions of Windows).

Windows 7 does look good, although it is nothing more than an evolution of the current Vista base. I have been running Vista for some time now and find it to be a more than decent OS and a considerable upgrade on XP. I would never consider going back to XP and I do plan to goto & when it comes out.

They HAVE to continue pushing Vista.

They dont have a release date set on Win7, and if its anything like Vista, it will probably be the end of 2009 or even mid 2010 before we get Win7 on shelves.

Keep in mind that 7 doesnt even have a real beta. Its still in pre-beta. It was about a year after MS released the beta of Vista that it was released.

They need to continue to focus on Vista. If people abandon Windows right now, they will still lose customers for Win7. Oh, and for the record, Vista is nice. I like it.

They're only trying to advertise themselves essentially because they have to now. Ever since Apple release Intel-based systems, their market share is increasing. Microsoft is just countering Apple. Another reason being, is because Vista has been given a shitload of negative responses. As much as I hate Windows, I hate Apple more so I'll stand up for them.

Vista really isn't that terrible, it's just they bogged it down with a shitload of unnecessary processes and eye-candy. Once it's setup right it runs fine. The two weeks I used it, it was alright. I still prefer costume configuration of my system, but it's proprietary.
