I have respect for the Military.. almost joined.. But I have noticed it changes alot of people for the worse.. but if you go in with good intentions and for the purpose of protecting and serving your country, then I feel thats the right decision. I know guys that went and think their the cock of the walk.. then beat his ass 2 days after he came back.. couldnt help it..

Im enlisting in the military at the end of Senior year.......that good enough?
Not for what I need but thank you. Good for you, by the way. I'm talking to a recruiter at the end of the school year, eek!
Ahh very cool, good for you to. Takes a big person to step up and join the military. Ive got 1 more year till i talk to a recruiter. Only a Junior lol.
That year will go by faster than you think I bet! Which branch are you interested in? :)
Well my family has been Army for the past 200 some odd years. Ill be the 2nd Generation to join the US military though. So Army most likely lol. Oh looking for facts on surviving basic training? From what my family members have told me. 1. Don't stick out, if you do then you'll be put back in line hard. The army doesn't want an individual, they want a unit. 2. No matter what you do the Drill Sergeants grandmother can and will do it better then you. 3. Drill Sergeants are deaf, sound off at the top of your lungs. 4. Never look them in the eyes, to do that is to challenge their authority. 5. Only take the bare minimum you can, when you get there you'll get a $200 card (which comes out of your pay) and a little store to which buy basic stuff. Because they will take your bag and turn it upside down once u get off that bus. And thats all i can remember.....not looking forward to Basic at all lol.

My dad was in the USAF for 25 years. I have spent over half of my life on a military base. I know plenty, and can ask my dad if I dont know. Questions?
I'm actually just looking for any advise on surviving BCT. In my web design class at school one of my projects is to make a site on preparing for Basic so I was hoping to get some advise from soldiers for the site. Your dad doesn't by any chance have any words of wisdom I could use does he? :p
Haha Ok, well, we just had this conversation a couple nights ago with my brother (he ships to basic in a few weeks). Ill type out what I remember him saying and then Ill ask him if theres anything he wants to add. -Practice getting up on time before you leave -Set your alarm an hour and a half before you need to be up, so you have time to get ready and have some time to yourself each morning -Help the others out in anyway you can. Succeed as a group, fail as a group -Start training your physical endurance before you leave, but dont show off once you get there -Never, under any circumstance question any of the superiors -Talk to your recruiter and/or your C.O. (if you've already been assigned a unit for after basic) about pre-basic training. Many units will offer some training to new members if they want it. This will help you get in shape, and learn how to march and properly salute. These will put you one step up from the others at basic, and will allow you to help anyone who is struggling (again, succeed as a group, fail as a group) -Every single one of your superiors at basic will be on a HUGE ego trip, just because they can and will be able to treat you like shit. Just take it. As time goes on, they will gain respect for you as a person -Have family and friends send you small items later on in basic. Dont start until it seems that everyone else is doing it -Sweets are normally considered to be contraband, so if you get it, eat it quick, burn the evidence -Maintain a journal, but dont keep it. Some people may chose to mock you (including your superiors) if you have one. Keep one by writing your thoughts, and mailing them home. Have someone back home saving your letters to yourself -Keep in contact with those back home. Write to anyone and everyone -Never, ever, under any circumstances complain about conditions. Never. He also mentioned to make sure you have someone maintaining all your stuff back home. IE paying any bills you leave behind, etc.
