I just read your other topic. You can learn a little as a gesture, like others have said. But if he's all like "you should learn it >:[" then it's pretty crap. And it'll be hard to learn if you don't genuinely want to. Part of it is because it has no alphabet system, and the language syntax is completely different from English.

I don't think you should, because though Chinese isn't hard to learn, if you don't get the accent right, they will probably be more annoyed than impressed. Although, they could also be impressed by how much you're willing to do to make them happy.
