I practice martial arts and boxing and I've got a regular hanging punching bag at my parent's house in the garage. I'm in college and I live in an apartment so I obviously can't hang it from the rafters. I miss my punching bag routines during the school year so I'd like to find a way to take a punching bag with me. I'm looking at getting a freestanding punching bag. I've used them before but it was on the ground, concrete floor at the dojan so I don't know how loud it would be since I'm on the 2nd floor in an apartment house. I'd use courtesy and not be doing jumping kicks, more of just punches and basic kicks so the people below wouldn't hear me jumping around. My question is do you think it would be disruptive to have a freestanding punching bag on the second floor? I see you can fill the base with 200 gallons of water: I probably wouldn't need nearly that much for mostly punching, but do you think the weight would damage the ceiling?
Another option I have is keeping it outside under the back porch and just get it out when when I want to use it. I could put a lock and chain on it so no one could steal it and some sort of canvas cover it to help protect it from the weather. It'll be bad weather though since I live in the north and it's not uncommon to have three feet of snow on the ground--well, I'd probably take it home before the middle of winter. Do you think this would be a better option?
