GUYS! You have this all wrong!

Dating but not official simply means that they've gone out a couple of times in a date and have feelings for each other but still haven't taken it to the next step. In order for something to be official, both of them must mutually agree to "take it to the next level" and ask each other "do you want to be my girlfriend / boyfriend?". When that happens then its truly official.
