Do you you think that stereotypes are founded on any particular truth, or are they just random accusations though up? Also, do you think that because of a stereotype, a person will act a certain way to fit that stereotype so as not to be different? I sort of see it as a cycle. Somebody does something, it leads to a stereotype, people act based on the stereotype, more people believe the stereotype... Do you agree or disagree? Discuss.

I don't know if there is always a particular truth within a stereotype, but I think in some cases there are. I also think that many of those "cases" are because someone acts a certain way to fill a stereotype. They act as they believe that person they want to be would act like. I pretty much agree with the last statment. It is a continuing cycle, that unfortunately will never be broken.

I agree. Stereotypes aren't just crazy made up accusations. They are based on truth. I don't believe that EVERYONE fits into a stereotype though.

I agree, I don't see how it CAN be broken. Even if stereotypes can't be verbally spoken, they can be implied through actions. They can be passed on through very little words.

They had to start somewhere, so my guess is that there must be some truth behind them.

Stereotypes aren't just born out of thin air - so in some way, they must be based on fact. However, over time, they get exaggerated, so it doesn't seem to be so factual after a while. People do act to fit into stereotypes though - like, they dress a certain way or they listen to a certain type of music, thus, the stereotype continues.

Another thought I'll add to this is if you refuse to acknowledge stereotypes, try riding Greyhound buses across country. You'll certainly find more than your fair share.

There is some truth to it, but most stereotypes are kind of exaggerated.
