Okay, support leaders. I've been a support leader for almost 8 months, so I've seen pretty much the whole eHelp system at a whole. From the 22 new eHelps, to none at all, and then the school crowds.

Why now is there only 2 eHelps, during the school year, with teens with issues running all over the place.

No, it's not just because they aren't submitting as many. From the way I see it, we have some people to thank. Fresh SL blood.

You see Define your line, killtyronedead, jamesish, and all of these new (or returning) support leaders. And they are support a whack load, taming these harsh numbers with their fresh emotions, the ones that we almost all had when we first became an SL. Determined to help. Now, some SLs and Mods of all sort still are out their, being supportive, but not everyone is.

Take myself for an example. I've almost halted the entire Support, until this last two weeks. I've done two eHelps, along with two Tech-Help topics. This isn't like me, especially considering I've just lost three best friends. But it's because of these other Support Leaders. They have this vibe being spread all through the eHelp system, that just makes you want to reply to one yourself. Agreed?

So, here's what I think we should do. We should make a contest, which I will run, on behalf of the eHelp reinvigoration group (Blank Black, Audrey, and I), in order to swing the entire eHelp responding mood.

From the day we start, for two weeks, we will recruit SLs. Of course, this isn't as easy as saying "You, become an SL". They will have to work their asses off, and rise above the SL expectation, and motivate the whole SL community. They will make their responsive replies, and have to blow the moderators away with their Written part. Then, they ask for it back, and post it in the topic page. We from there can take all that entered, and run them through tests, to be the winner. We all will judge each new Sl's application, and then they will have to try and motivate us in both the forums and the eHelp system, and the top three who do so, and remain to do so throughout the trial period, will win the contest, and split the points.

So, what do you say? Is it time to bring it some new members to come and whip the rest of us back into our once-supportive selves?!

I don't think this would work for me but kay.

I don't reply to ehelps because I hardly have time now as it is and when I do reply is because I either feel like I can help and give a good ehelp and cuz I want to... Having people encouraging me to do it would only lead to crappy ehelps. Idk.

The people wouldn't be saying "Do an eHelp", it would be more like "Hey, look, I'm giving awesome replies, you should do the same"

I unno, just pull out as much support as we can get.

see but my point is that when people try they force things and don't come out as good as they would if it was naturally.

The number of ehelps I do has absolutely nothing to do with what other people are doing.  I do ehelps when I have enough time, and when I can.

Maybe some other people are inspired or motivated or think it's a competition or whatever and get going when others are.  This can work for them I guess.

In all honesty I think you may as well recruit people based on how much free time they have....that seems to be the biggest deciding factor.

agreed Isobel. I do support when I can, when I have the time. I try to make the time, but there are just those weeks where it doesnt happen. It is a sad part of life, but it is life none the less.

If people want to help, they have already applied. having a contest for something like this seems whack.

.

Exactly. It's nothing to do with a "support wave".

I don't think that is quite correct? I personally do eHelps when I can be bothered or have enough effort to do so - which recently hasn't been a lot because I've been busy.

I want to say this topic has made me mad!

As always the newbies get credit I don't think you realise the support which longer support leaders have been putting in, just because you don't notice it DOESN'T mean it isn't there.

In all honesty I do eHelps when I feel that I can give advice which actually BENEFITS the person who is asking for advice, and also when I feel in the right frame of mind to help.

I don't think you realise we all have lives and our world doesn't evolve around this site. Yes these new support leaders or returning may be tackling numbers however I don't think you realise older support leaders do give the advice WHEN THEY ARE ABLE TO. I've seen the support system for well over a year now, I may not be one of those that tackles them as they come but at least I go ahead and actually advise them when I can.

I hate how new SL's FOREVER are getting credit I don't think you realise how the older support leaders are just as benefiting because they have STUCK WITH IT through thick and thin of members complaining and they continue to advise.

So please think about what I have said next time you make a topic talking about how new support leaders seem to be doing best, because this is how I have read what you are saying.

Completions, are good for short term but we have to remember some are just here for the power trip, and you CANNOT force members to be helpful if they don't want to be.
