I learned by drawing DBZ characters. With pen and ink. Draw the most noticeable lines and either with graphic marker or colored pencil shade around a spot of highlight and then shade the whole thing. If you are working with graphic marker, use a gray to do shading over the skin tone. If color pencils either use orange or purple or both to shade.
