My brother-n-law's family is like that... It's ridiculous because they say it's "encouraging magic spells to be used which is too much like Wiccan and everyone knows Wiccan is evil" and they won't even look at Wiccan in a serious way to begin with. I just laughed at them when they gave me that reason, and I just told them that they seriously need to study more about Wiccan because they were more of less talking out of their ass when they explained it to me like that.

They're not really variations of spells. It's more like screwed up latin. I mean "wingardium leviosa" wings, levitation? Ring a bell. And alot of other things in the book have nothing to do with Wicca. It's a fantasy novel series. I think she's secretly writing from some sort of childhood abandonment although I've never really looked into it. That's what captivated me. I mean first it's Harry Potter with the murdered parents, then Neville with the crazy parents who had never been around his entire life, Sirius with his parents who didn't understand him or rejected him, Tom Riddle with his story of the orphanage, Dumbledore lost his parents young, and she ends the series by killing off Lupin and Tonks after they had Teddy. Not to mention Tonk's dad dying somewhere inbetween. She kind of tortured the Weasley family there at the end with Bill's face, George's ear, and Fred's death. If anything needs addressed I think it would be her unusual use of parental and family death, not the magic. I mean even alot of nursery rhymes and bedtime stories use magic. Why not attack J.R.Tolkien while we're at it for the Lord of the Rings... Nah that wouldn't be fair he was too good a friend to C.S. Lewis, who suprisingly enough has never been attacked for his Chronicles of Narnia series with blatent uses of magic and witchcraft. Sure you could say Azland is Jesus in some strange metaphorical manner but then again wasn't Harry Potter kind of the "savior" of his nation? Just something to think about. Generally speaking, it's because the word "witch" is a negative buzzword for Christians...causes them to think of someone conjuring up the devil or something stupid like that. Most boycotts or bans of Harry Potter just stem from some form of ignorance, pure and simple.

She had trouble with her father as a kid and thats why harry has so many adoptive father figures in his life: Hagrid, Mr weasley, Dumbledore. ect.
